# Set margin goals and colors

Set your default margin and the color thresholds for margin goals.

## Set margin goals and colors

Margin goals show whether a calculation reaches a healthy margin.

You set the default margin and the thresholds in the calculation settings.

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

#### Open the calculation settings

Go to the **Calculations** settings page.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Set the default margin

Fill in the default margin.

OutSmart applies this margin to new calculation lines automatically. The default is 15.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Set the margin goal thresholds

Use the slider to set the **Danger** and **Warning** boundaries.

Everything above the warning boundary counts as **Safe**.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Choose the colors

Pick a color for **Danger**, **Warning**, and **Safe**.

These colors show on the calculation overview.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Save the settings

Click **Save**.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

#### How the goals appear

* **Danger** means the margin is below your danger threshold
* **Warning** means the margin sits between the two thresholds
* **Safe** means the margin is above your warning threshold

#### Frequently asked questions

<details>

<summary>What is the default margin used for?</summary>

It is applied automatically to new calculation lines so you do not set it every time.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Do the colors change the price?</summary>

No.

The colors are only a visual signal. They do not change any amounts.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://knowledge.out-smart.com/backoffice/backoffice/calculations/set-margin-goals-and-colors.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
