Understand item fields and options

Review the required and optional fields you can use when you create or edit an item.

Each item has a small set of required fields and a wider set of optional fields.

Use the optional fields to match your own process.

Required fields

Every item needs:

  • Item code

  • Description

  • Unit price

Common optional fields

You can also use:

  • Unit for the measurement type

  • Barcode or EAN code for scanning

  • Image for customer-facing documents

  • VAT code for the right tax rate

Why these fields matter

These settings help you:

  • speed up item selection

  • keep invoices and quotations consistent

  • decide what customers do or do not see

You do not need to use every field.

Start with the fields that support your daily process.
