Let technicians view a work order without edit rights

Learn why work order visibility depends on its stage, and how to restrict editing in the mobile app.

Let technicians view a work order without edit rights

Before you start, check Troubleshooting checklist: start here.

Introduction

Technicians may need to see a work order without changing it.

Visibility and editing are controlled separately.

Detailed explanation

Two settings affect this behavior:

  • Visibility in the app depends on the work order’s stage. The employee sees it after scheduling and when it reaches the stage that releases it to the app.

  • Editing is controlled through Device policies and settings in the BackOffice. You can restrict descriptions, items, deletions, and forms.

There is no separate view-only toggle. Make the work order visible through its stage. Then limit allowed edits through app restrictions.

Step-by-step guide

1

Make the work order visible

Schedule the work order to the employee. Move it to the stage that releases it to the app.

2

Restrict editing

Open Device policies and settings in the BackOffice. Enable the restrictions you need.

3

Sync and confirm

Ask the employee to synchronise the app. Confirm they can view the work order and cannot change restricted fields.

FAQ

Can I give technicians read-only access to a work order?

Not with one toggle. A stage controls visibility. Device policies control which edits are allowed.

Do BackOffice roles and permissions control this on mobile?

No. Roles and permissions apply to the BackOffice. Use Device policies and settings for mobile restrictions.
