# Understand task statuses

Task status shows where a task is in its lifecycle.

It helps teams see what still needs attention.

### Common task statuses

* **Yet To Start** — the task exists but no work has started.
* **In Progress** — someone is actively working on it.
* **Completed** — the task is finished.
* **Expired** — the due date passed before completion.
* **Closed** — the task is no longer active.
* **Stopped** — work on the task was ended before completion.

### Change a task status

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Open the task

Open the task you want to update.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Find the Status field

Open the task details.

Then locate **Status**.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Select the new status

Choose the status that matches the current situation.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Save

Save the task.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

### Important to know

Completed and closed tasks are usually no longer part of the active work list.

Expired tasks help you spot overdue follow-up.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://knowledge.out-smart.com/marketplace-packages-and-power-ups/power-ups/tasks/understand-task-statuses.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
