# Create a new automation in OutSmart

An automation in OutSmart consists of four parts:

* a clear name
* an event or trigger
* one or more criteria
* one or more actions

Together, these parts determine when something happens and what OutSmart does next.

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Open Automation

Go to **Settings → General → Automation**.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Start a new automation

Click **Add** in the top-right corner.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Give it a clear name

Use a name that explains the purpose immediately.

For example: `Inform customer when work order is completed`.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Choose a trigger

Select an event from the list.

For example:

* `Work order marked as completed`
* `New portal request`
* `Quotation status changed`
  {% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Add criteria

Use criteria to make the automation more precise.

You can combine multiple criteria.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Set actions

Choose which action or actions should run when the trigger fires.

You can add multiple actions in sequence.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Save

Click **Save** in the top-right corner.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://knowledge.out-smart.com/marketplace-packages-and-power-ups/power-ups/unlimited-automations/create-a-new-automation-in-outsmart.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
