# Adding and managing materials and items

## Adding and managing materials and items

Register materials during the job or before you complete the work order.

Use **Material Catalog** when the item already exists.

Use **New Item (Material)** when you need an ad-hoc line.

The **Materials** section can contain shared catalog items, warehouse stock, and manual entries.

### Common ways to add materials

* Select an item from **Material Catalog**.
* Pick stock from **Warehouses**.
* Add a manual line through **New Item (Material)**.

### Add a catalog item

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Open the work order

Go to **Materials** inside the work order.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Choose the source

Open **Material Catalog** or **Warehouses**.

Search or browse for the item.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Confirm quantity and details

Enter the quantity.

Adjust the visible unit, price, or description if allowed.

Save the line.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

### Add a manual item

Use **New Item (Material)** when the material does not exist yet.

Enter the description and quantity.

Add extra price or unit details if your setup allows it.

Use clear descriptions for ad-hoc lines so they remain understandable in the completed work order.

### Keep in mind

* Warehouse access can be restricted.
* Price fields can be read-only.
* Required fields must be completed before saving.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://knowledge.out-smart.com/mobile-app/android-outsmart-next/core-functionalities/adding-and-managing-materials-and-items.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
